Opera Australia today issued a warning to fans that scalpers have scooped up more than two thousand highly sought-after tickets to Evita, starring Tina Arena, and are attempting to re-sell them on sites such as such as Viagogo and Ticketmaster Resale to eager fans at grossly inflated prices.
OA, along with the Gordon Frost Organisation and Arts Centre Melbourne (ACM) where Evita opens on Sunday night, issued the joint warning via their social media platforms today reminding people that ACM’s terms and conditions clearly state that resale of tickets at a premium is not permitted and tickets may be cancelled if they are determined to have been re-sold by scalpers.
All tickets sold via authorised agents come with a number of important terms and conditions, which are clearly stated on the agent’s website and / or the ticket itself, specifically noting that on-selling tickets for a premium or dealt with in a way that contravenes these terms and conditions, is not allowed and tickets deemed invalid may be cancelled.
Opera Australia CEO, Rory Jeffes said it was a timely reminder to fans to purchase tickets only through authorised channels.
“We’re thrilled that fans are so excited about seeing Tina play the iconic Eva Perón, but we are urging them not to run the risk of having their ticket cancelled at the door and not being allowed into the show.
“Everyone needs to exercise caution when purchasing tickets and while we acknowledge there’s a great deal of interest in the show and some performances are already sold out, there are still great seats available in January and February,” he said.
OA became aware that scalpers had purchased a large number of tickets yesterday and moved quickly to warn patrons.
EVITA Tickets should only be purchased through authorised sites, which are listed on the official Evita website evitathemusical.com.au If not purchased through these agents the tickets may be cancelled.
